Mrs Chandrakala Gurung (Founder President) together with her oldest daughter Mrs Suprova Hamal (Founder Principal) and Mr Lee Pradhan (Founder Administrator) wanted to start a school of their own – one that would be unlike any other. They shared common beliefs and ideas, and they knew that they were called to move forward with a passion to help uplift and educate the local community. At that time, in the 70’s the school had no name, no funding, and no facility. The three actively recruited board members who shared their vision and passion. Once they had a team of supporters began to scour the town in hopes of finding a school site. After looking at close to fifty properties, they came upon the foundations of a house being laid. They were told it was no place for a school; far away from the bustling town with only local working class residents, they knew it was exactly what they had been looking for. Their mission was not only to lift up their students in a peaceful environment; they wanted to lift up a community as well.
Having set up the first few classes and after having visited countless businesses, foundations, community events and civic and neighborhood planning meetings to share their dream with anyone who would listen.
Mrs Hamal the Founder Principal who was just 27 years old armed with her Degree in Education and experience in teaching at a premier primary school, in the winter of 1980, put out a single table and chair braving the winter cold to receive admissions and the dream began.
In March 1981 an inaugural class of just 6 students commenced . Six bright-eyed, beautiful children joined us. Since that day we have become a true family. For 38 years, surviving numerous setbacks – we have challenged, motivated, disciplined, and inspired these students, and we have grown to love them for their amazing gifts and unique abilities. We truly believe that we have future world leaders who are compassionate, kind, courageous, just and fair – at our school, and we are honored to teach them each and every day.
